Compared To E-mail Marketing SMS Has A Staggeringly High Open Rate

Essentially, almost every SMS sent is opened (and read), whereas only a fraction of Emails sent are even opened or read at all.

When a subscriber feels that buzz in their pocket or hears that trill signaling a text message, they always look. In some cases, text messages are automatically opened, where E-mails aren’t. Subscribers have a choice to open your E-mail.

Related to large companies small businesses often have a very restricted budget

This forces them to get extra creative with their advertising and decreases the amount of room they have to make (and recover from) mistakes.

Each advertisement or campaign has to succeed at some level to bring in new business or at least help the company break even.

People prefer receiving text messages to an E-mail that has been fired into their inbox or to a leaflet stuffed through their door

Unlike the other two, an SMS is not seen as being such a throwaway commodity – it’s not a natural reaction to simply delete it.

From a business’s point of view this is your chance to address a customer directly and personally. You can find a tone and a voice that your audience appreciates and use it effectively.

The recipient will welcome a message that shows you know and understand their tastes – especially if it contains a juicy offer or early news of a new product or service.

For this reason, texts work not only to drum up business but also to make your customers feel wanted and encourage them to stay loyal

Text Messages are delivered in Real Time!

The real time nature of text messages means you can keep your finger on the buzz and respond to wider events as they happen, rather than trying to preempt trends ahead of time.

If you are a bar and suddenly there’s a heatwave, send out a message to your SMS mailing list offering them a free cocktail that afternoon. Real time means you can keep your content fresh and respond quickly in ways you can’t with lots of other marketing tools.

So what’s the average SMS marketing click-through rate?

According to our good friends at FunMobility, who evaluated all of their client’s SMS-click through rates in aggregate, determined that the average SMS marketing click-through is 36%.

That means that for every 1,00 customers that receive an SMS message with a hyperlink in it, on average, 360 of them will click on that hyperlink

That’s pretty good, especially when compared to E-mail marketing, which only has an average click-through rate of 3.2%.

Combine an average SMS marketing click-through rate of 36%, with the average SMS open rate of 99%, you can see why so many brands are starting to insert links into their SMS marketing campaigns.

How you do retain and re-market to your customers?

In the “old days” you would ask them for their E-mail address and then send them alerts, notifications, and coupons hoping they come back to your business.

However, they probably most likely never even saw your marketing E-mail

Mobile Marketing Watch reports that only 22% of marketing E-mails are even opened. That is a horrible rate if you are a business trying to reach your customers.

Contrast that with SMS has a 99% open rate!

Within minutes of sending a text message, 99% of your subscriber base will be reading your SMS Marketing Message. That is an incredibly powerful way to have a rapid impact on your goals as a business.

Sometimes it's tricky to know how often you should send marketing messages out to your customers. You don't want to send out too few, otherwise your customers will forget you exist, but send out too many and you risk driving them away.

SMS Marketing is Easy to do.

It 's also an instant way of providing satisfaction for your subscribers. They feel they are truly getting something unique from you, and they are more likely to re-visit your business when they get a SMS text message.

The beauty of text messages is that they help you make a personal connection with your customers. Typically, your customers text their friends and family, and all of a sudden, when you message them on the same channel, you conjure warm, colloquial responses.

It Makes Your Customers’ Lives Easy

33% more people have access to mobile phones than toilets

As of last year, 60% of total digital media time spent in the United States was on mobile and this number is growing rapidly. Given the time your customers are already spending on mobile devices, mobile communication will make their life easy!

When one is on their mobile device, it’s much easier to respond to a text than it is to use web-chat or write E-mails. Think about how many times you’ve used webchat on your mobile phone vs. SMS, and if you have tried webchat at all, the experience was probably pretty bad.
